These bubbas are still growing!!!

The longhorn steers of Quiet Hill Ranch are growing out nicely. They are 2 1/2 years old and will continue to grow for another 2 1/2 years. We are excited and eagerly look forward to seeing how big these busters are going to get.

PRISSILLA THE PIG HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pork n' Beans', (R.I.P.), shoes are being admirably filled with the coronation of Prissilla as the new Queen of Quiet Hill. Prissilla arrived on June 26th and is 6" tall, 18" long, and 20 pounds. She is still a little wild but with Ms Cindy's TLC and her constant feeding of apples to Prissilla, I am certain her wild days will be short lived.

Queen Prissila looks forward to many bowls of slop being fed to her by guests who will be rewarded with majestic grunts of acceptance.

SNOW ON QUIET HILL RANCH

Howdy from the SNOWY TEXAS HILL COUNTRY!!! This morning (2/23/2010) brought a beautiful surprise to Quiet Hill Ranch. SNOOOOOW!!! It is sooooo beautiful here. Even though it means extra work and extra feeding for animals and birds, we truly enjoy the rare snowfalls we receive.
Do not fret, THE WILDFLOWERS ARE BLESSED BY THIS NITROGEN LADEN MOISTURE. The birds are being well taken care of and the Titmouse was singing his heart out because he was warm and well fed. (He may be practicing his spring mating call)
This is truly a blessing for the soil and will only add to the spring beauty.

YA'LL COME!!!!!!

AWESOME SPRING WILDFLOWERS ARE COMIN

Hi everyone,

The bountiful fall and winter rains raises our hopes that this coming wildflower season will be the best in years. Bluebonnets, Indian blankets, Indian Paintbrush, and other native flowers have germinated in great masses. We expect a lot of visitors so make your plans early to come to Quiet Hill Ranch and view this natural phenomenon. We can design eyepoppin, camera clickin, wildflower drives that will amaze you and keep you away from the crowds to boot.
In addition to giving us humans all this beauty, nature is providing much needed seed for our feathered friends. The birding in April is simply spectacular!!! So I guess if you love nature, Quiet Hill Ranch is THE place to be.

Birding Bonanza

Hi ya'll,
Well the last blog I put up I was extolling the winter birding at Quiet Hill Ranch. It was just a preview to the birding this last week. It has been the most exciting birding time I have experienced in the 30 years I have been on the ranch. We have seen Painted Buntings, Black-Capped Vireos, Lazuli Buntings, Indigo Buntings, Blue Grossbeaks, Orchard Orioles, Varied Buntings, Nashville Warblers, Black and White Warblers, and a couple dozen Ruby Throat Hummingbirds. This is in addition to the Cardinals, Titmice, Wrens, Towhees, White Capped Sparrows, and so many other species of year round birds that call Quiet Hill Ranch home sweet home!!!!

Winter Birding Wonderland

Well believe it or not, winter is a wonderful time for birdwatching at Quiet Hill Ranch. At times there are in excess of 100 birds feeding, bathing, or just sunning themselves on a favorite perch. On December the 9th, there were 14 male cardinals within 20 feet of your viewing bench. Don't wait till spring, come see us in January and February. There are some great week day rates available.
